I’ve lived in D.C. for about 5 years now and have seen many of the monuments and popular tourist sites but I recently discovered my favorite; The O Street Mansion.
For years, I’ve been wanting to explore this hidden gem—A mansion that sprawls nearly an entire city block, 5 townhomes, boasts 70 secret doors, dozens of hidden rooms and is an active hotel with EVERYTHING INSIDE FOR SALE.
The O Street Mansion is decadent, opulent and eclectic — covered top to bottom with trinkets and treasures that were donated.
All the items you’ll see are for sale and 100% of sales go to their programs including their Heroes program for assisting veterans and first responders, as well as the Artist-In-Residence program that gives artists a place to stay free of charge.
If you visit Washington, head over to the O Street Mansion and feel good knowing the money you spend (tickets are $25 ahead of time and $30 at the door) goes to a good cause! Make sure you allow a few hours to really explore and get lost.
The bar set below only set me back $47, but there are items that range in price all the way up to a chessboard that is $20,000!
Each room has a different theme, ceiling and chandelier. If you’re obsessed with chandeliers, like myself, you’ll have lots of eye candy to gobble up.
While many of the attractions in DC are free, this is one that you’ll want to spend the money on and have something extra in case you find a gem to take home because what better souvenir could there be?!
