When trying to decide what to wear in New Orleans; comfort and function were high on my list. But of course, I’m never willing to sacrifice style for function. While the majority of my Presidents Day 2019 trip to New Orleans was dreary and rainy, I was fortunate enough to start the trip off with a full day of sunshine and 75 F temperatures. I spent over 9 hours walking so I made sure to opt for something comfortable and breathable, that would also allow for the inevitable food baby from my po’boys & gumbos!
For a day like this, of course I reach for my favorite pair of jeans, a linen top, and a gorgeous (& practicle) crossbody bag.
The top was a piece I purchased second-hand during the winter months on Poshmark and had been dying to pull it out. Unfortunately it’s currently sold out on the Free People website but I’m sure you can find it second-hand online.
An honest review: The top is stunning and runs really large. This is actually great for me because I have really large breasts that normally may not fit in a top like this. However, due to that fact, a lot of people left poor reviews online, understandably. The cream isn’t really see through which is awesome but I still wore pasties to be safe.
I do have a few complaints though. The first being that I definitely will need to alter the piece a little before I wear it again. The halter strap needs to be shortened, armpits
The jeans truly are a favorite of mine and I’ve worn them several times since purchasing this Winter. I love that the jeans have room in the hips which is a problem I have frequently but they definitely aren’t the holy grail of jeans. They’re still really roomy in the waist and I still have gapping but that is to be expected with rigid denim if you’re going to get it over a wide butt and have a small waist.
The jeans are still for sale here on ASOS and I will probably buy them in black as well since I find myself reaching for them much more frequently than I thought I would.
When deciding what to wear in New Orleans, the perfect bag is a must. This crossbody is one of my favorite purses I own. I am a purse lady. It’s one of the things in my wardrobe I will splurge on. If it’s sturdy, serves my needs and is fashionable, I’ll spend the money. The bag fits my camera, iPad, wallet and other miscellaneous things I might need. It also has a turn lock which helps me feel secure when traveling or walking about. I purchased this piece second hand in one of my favorite consignment shops in DC called Current Boutique. You can find it several other places online including here.
So there you have it! This outfit or one similar is perfect for anyone trying to decide what to wear in New Orleans. The pieces are versatile and can be mixed & matched easily so you can easily pack with just a carry-on for this trip.
What are some of your favorite pieces to wear to feel comfortable yet fashionable on a long day of traveling or sight seeing?
